The overall objective is to bring researchers, technicians and students together around the issues relating to the forms of oral expression and the role of oral transmission in perpetuating the traditions of each society and culture.
It is intended to allow the convergence of specific disciplinary viewpoints around the study of orality. These should include the study of oral literatures, anthropology, history, geography. It also aims to draw to the discussion technicians and people involved in conservation, archiving and management of these assets, as well as students from various fields.
The proposed discussion themes are:
- Minorities and oral tradition (history, geography, ethnography...);
- Memory in crisis: oralities and traumatic memory;
- Life stories and personal memories;
- Traditional tale telling as performing art and new contemporary forms of orality (namely modern tales and new storytelling styles);
- Music and traditions: the role of oral transmission;
- Forms and problems of oral transmission;
- Oral traditions and local contexts (local memories and identity building).
Paper proposals in the form of abstracts containing between 500 and 1000 characters, should be submitted before August 30, 2012.
