13 PhD Scholarships for Cultural Studies at Giessen University

Description

Giessen University’s International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC), co-funded by the German federal government’s Excellence Initiative, offers a three-year, structured PhD-programme in the study of culture. With its excellent research environment, a doctoral programme which is tailored to the needs of PhD students and the intensive personal support it provides, the Graduate Centre offers doctoral researchers optimum conditions for their PhD-projects and custom-made preparation for the time thereafter, both with regard to academic and non-academic careers.
The GCSC invites applications for one of the up to 13 PhD scholarships available, which are funded by the Excellence Initiative as well as Justus Liebig University Giessen. The PhD scholarship period starts on October  2015.

Eligibility

The GCSC encourages applications from graduate students who have or expect to obtain a first or upper second class honours M.A. degree (or the equivalent) in one of the GCSC’s academic subjectsor in the arts/humanities, cultural studies or the social sciences. The GCSC’s working languages are German and English, and applicants must be fluent in at least one of them; knowledge of both is an advantage and should be acquired during the scholarship period.

Scholarship

The PhD scholarship includes a monthly stipend of approximately €1,468 (plus family allowances when applicable). Scholarships are offered for one year with the possibility of two extensions, each of one year. The GCSC supports young researchers with families: appointees with children under the age of twelve are eligible for renewals of up to four years.

Application

In order to apply you must  fill in and submit the online application form and  upload the following documents:
  • A CV;
  • A 1-2 page cover letter, explaining your motives for applying at the GCSC;
  • short abstract of your research project (approx. 500 words), including the title of your project and a brief outline of the methodology you will use.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

Retour des bourses UNESCO-Aschberg: création littéraire, la musique et les arts visuels


Le programme de bourses UNESCO-Aschberg favorise la mobilité des jeunes artistes dans le but d’enrichir leurs projets de création en leur permettant de pratiquer un dialogue dans la diversité culturelle.

Ces expériences de résidences exercent un rôle catalytique dans le développement des expressions artistiques de toutes les cultures du monde.
Le Programme des Bourses UNESCO-Aschberg s’inscrit, depuis 1994, dans une stratégie de l’UNESCO d’encouragement à la  diversité culturelle et au dialogue interculturel. Son objectif est d’offrir de nouvelles expériences à de jeunes artistes et de les aider à compléter leur formation dans des pays dont ils ne sont pas originaires.
  • Les disciplines artistiques pour lesquelles des bourses sont attribuées sont la création littéraire, la musique et les arts visuels. Ces trois domaines recouvrent des spécialités artistiques motrices pour les industries créatives en particulier celles du disque et pour l’organisation de concerts, le secteur audiovisuel, la création graphique et l’édition.  Les pays du Sud, riches d’une tradition artistique foisonnante peuvent ainsi étendre leurs compétences dans ces domaines, et par de là dynamiser les différents secteurs de l’industrie culturelle.
  • La stratégie du Programme repose sur les politiques de l'UNESCO pour la promotion de la créativité et la diversité, et ainsi, converge avec les buts de la Convention sur la promotion et la protection de la diversité des expressions culturelles (Convention 2005).
  • Le Programme accorde aussi la priorité aux artistes et aux institutions des pays en développement, dans le but d’accroître la coopération Nord-Sud et Sud-Sud.
Les origines du Programme
  • Entre 1994 et 2007, le Programme a accordé 650 bourses, dans 149 institutions, à des lauréats provenant de 72 pays.
  • En 2007, le programme a été momentanément suspendu et a fait l’objet d’une évaluation destinée d’une part à trouver des synergies avec la Convention de 2005 et d’autre part à optimiser sa gestion.

Appels à Projet - Prix Montalembert 2015

Les bourses Marc de Montalembert sont des bourses à projet : elles soutiennent la réalisation de projets culturels ou liés aux métiers d’art afin d’aider les jeunes de la Région méditerranéenne à vérifier leur vocation personnelle tout en les encourageant à développer leurs connaissances des cultures et des savoirs de leur région. Elles sont attribuées chaque année.

Depuis 1994 la Fondation a appuyé 24 projets présentés par des jeunes de 7 pays riverains de la Méditerranée. Ces projets touchaient les domaines de l’écriture, de l’architecture, de l’archéologie, du chant et de la musique, de l’histoire de l’art, de l’ethnographie, de l’anthropologie et de la sociologie, des métiers d’art, de la peinture, de la photographie. La bourse est de 7000 euros ; la Fondation Marc de Montalembert offre de plus au lauréat la possibilité de séjourner à son siège à Rhodes, en Grèce.

Pour être candidat il faut :
  • être originaire d’un pays riverain de la Méditerranée – y être né ou en posséder la nationalité,
  • avoir moins de 28 ans durant l’année d’attribution de la bourse,
  • faire preuve d’une vocation personnelle dans le domaine de la culture ou des métiers d’art, ou d’une motivation déjà concrétisée par des expériences,
  • présenter un projet lié à cette vocation et dont la réalisation sera effectuée dans d’autres pays de la Méditerranée que celui du candidat.

2) Les étudiants et les anciens élèves qui sont membres de l'EMA peuvent voter que pour un seul candidat désigné pour représenter leur propre programme Erasmus Mundus. Ils ne peuvent pas voter pour des candidats provenant d'autres programmes.
3) Pour voter, vous avez besoin pour vous connecter à la plate-forme de l'EMA. Ensuite il suffit d'aller au GROUPES et de sélectionner notre programme Erasmus Mundus. Le bouton «vote» est déjà sur la page du groupe TPTI (il s'agit d'un vote avec la plate-forme e-ballot).

PhD Research Fellowship in Paintings Conservatation at the University of Oslo

University of Oslo is inviting application for doctoral research fellowship in conservation. Duration of the fellowship is for three years. The position is funded by Research Council of Norway. 

The successful candidate is expected to strengthen and contribute to the relevant research areas addressed in the project description and to operate within the project network, both within the University of Oslo and internationally. 

The application deadline is 1st September 2014.

Eligibility: A relevant Master’s degree or equivalent, preferably in Paintings Conservation. In evaluation of the applications, emphasis will be placed on:
-Academic achievements and an aptitude to complete an interdisciplinary research degree at PhD level.
-Personal suitability and motivation for the position.
-Excellent spoken and written English-language skills are required.
-Experience of a collaborative working environment would be an advantage.
-Good cooperative skills, and the ability to join in academic collaboration within and across disciplines.
-The successful candidate is expected to strengthen and contribute to the relevant research areas addressed in the project description and to operate within the project network, both within the University of Oslo and internationally.

Scholarship Description: One PhD Research Fellowship is available for a Paintings Conservator to contribute to the project ‘After the Black Death: Painting and Polychrome Sculpture in Norway, 1350?1550’ (ABD). The position is funded by The Research Council of Norway between 2014 and 2017. ABD aims to generate scientific knowledge about a collection of late-medieval liturgical objects owned by the Museum of Cultural History (KHM), University of Oslo. The collection includes altarpieces and polychrome sculpture, the majority of which were imported to Norway from northern Germany and the Netherlands prior to the Reformation. Within this, the mechanisms of ageing and the deterioration of painted objects from this historical period are of specific interest.

Duration of award(s): The position is funded by The Research Council of Norway between 2014 and 2017.

PhD fellowships at the Sapienza University of Rome

Applications are invited for 19 full-time PhD fellowships available for international students (not Italian) at Sapienza University of Rome. Applicants must satisfy the entrance requirements for admission to the doctoral Programme.

These Fellowships are awarded for a period of three years. At the end of the first and second years of attendance, students will be evaluated as proficient according to the rules of the Schools.

Each fellowship amounts to € 19.800,00 per year; this amount includes national insurance contributions (INPS) that fellowship recipients are required to pay.

Application should be submitted till 10th June 2014.

Eligibility: Applications are open to candidates who:
-Are not Italian citizens;
-Are not legally resident in Italy;
-Have obtained an academic title from a non-Italian institution that satisfies the entrance requirements for admission to the Doctoral Programme. Perspective students must hold a degree equivalent to the Italian diploma degree /MSc /MSc, or expect to obtain it before 31st July 2014.

Notification: The list of winners and of those who may be considered as eligible if places become free will be published on the official website within 15 July 2014. Upon the award of the fellowships, formal certificates of the candidate’s declared  academic qualifications and transcripts of the academic curriculum should be sent by email no later than 20 September 2014, and should be delivered to the PhD Office by 31 October 2014 for enrollment.

-A photocopy of their identity card or passport;
-Curriculum vitae et studiorum;
-A copy of the degree certificate and list of exams with marks;
-A report on any research carried out by the candidate;
